Council President Letter

Hello, my name is David Kikumoto and I am the President of the Denver Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Our annual Friends of Scouting campaign is important to ensure that the values of Scouting continue to be accessible to youth across the entire Denver Metro area.

You may just be learning about or perhaps you have already experienced the great things that happen when youth are involved in Scouting. Studies have shown that youth who participate in and are exposed to the principals of Scouting are more likely to succeed in life, perform better in school and have better self esteem and confidence.

These principals and important life changing lessons are taught week after week by volunteers and parents like you in hundreds of Scout meetings throughout our Council.

The Denver Area Council covers 10 counties throughout the Denver Metro area and serves over 60,000 youth members with the help of more than 10,000 adult volunteer leaders.

Even with all of this grass roots support, you may be interested to know that it actually costs the council over $150 per scout each year to bring the scouting program to our community. Kids from the suburbs to the inner city are all benefiting from the ideals of scouting and growing into the new leaders we so desperately need. Scouting really is the great equalizer. Any child that participates in our program stands a much better chance of defining and reaching their goals. That is why your generous investment is so critical. You are being asked to show your support and to keep scouting strong in our community by becoming a Friend of Scouting.

Many Critical council benefits will result from your support of our annual Friends of Scouting Campaign:

  • The maintenance and upkeep of Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch which is now over 3,300 acres in Elbert, Colorado
  • Continuing the future development of Camp Tahosa, our high adventure base located at the base of the Indian Peaks Wilderness area in Boulder County.
  • Maintaining a supply of free literature, forms and certificates.
  • Keeping records of training and advancement for each volunteer and scout within the
    Council.
  • Assisting our Unit Leaders in providing full time Camp Rangers at our camps and providing many full time staff persons at the Scout office who are working tirelessly to continue to bring scouting to our community.
  • And by providing numerous educational and training programs to help the thousands of adult volunteers.

We are asking all families to consider a gift of at least $150 to provide the support it costs the Denver Area Council to serve one Scout. Your support is vital. By investing in this campaign, it will ensure that we will continue to have a quality program in 2010, and will continue to ensure that the values and morals of the Boy Scouts of America will continue in your community. God Bless you and your family, and God Bless the Boy Scouts of America.
